Discuss the following,

To begin to appreciate redemption we need to see how far mankind has fallen and how unable he is to help himself.

How did God feel about mankind in the days of Noah? Read Genesis 6:5-7, 11-12.

Was he any different in Paul’s day? Read Ephesians 2:1-3, Romans 3:9-20, 23.

What about now 2000 years later. How do the people of today compare with then? How relevant is Romans 1:18-32 to the world we see in Australia in 2016?

How would you summarize mans situation and having to stand before a Holy God to be judged? See Revelation 20:11-15

What was your situation before you was saved?

What tendencies to sin do you still experience from your old nature (flesh)?

What did Paul say about himself? Romans 7:14-24. With whom was the answer for his predicament?

Jesus Our Redeemer

What does ‘Redeemer’ mean?

Discuss in your group the role of a redeemer. What does he do?

Read Ruth 4:1-22 and discuss Boaz’ position as her redeemer.

Boaz (Kinsman-redeemer) – 3 indispensable qualities…

1. The right to redeem.    2. The power to redeem.   3. The will to redeem.

How did Jesus become our Redeemer? Refer to the following:

Jesus’ mission. Mark 10:45.

Jesus paid the price. Ephesians 1:7, 1 Peter 1:18-20.

As Jesus paid the price to buy our freedom what were five benefits all believers have through Christ?

  1. Colossians 1:12, 2 Corinthians 5:21.
  2. Colossians 1:13, 2:15.
  3. Colossians 1:13, Ephesians 1:5-6.
  4. Colossians 1:14.
  5. Colossians 1:14, Ephesians 1:7. *

Jesus Our Great High Priest

What was the role of the high priest under the Law in The Old Covenant? See Hebrews 5:1-4.

Read Hebrews 9:1-28, 10:11-18.

Compare the role of the high priest under the Old Jewish (temporary) Covenant with Christ The (eternal) High Priest in the new and final Covenant.

What are the benefits for us who are believers in Christ?

See Hebrews 10:19-24, 4:14-16.

What does it mean to you to have Jesus as your Redeemer and High Priest and the future you have to look forward to? Read Revelation 21:1-7, 22:1-5.

How does it help you in your every day living?

Share your answers with your group.

Finish with a time of prayer giving thanks to God for all He has done for you.
