This week’s study is the sixth in a series looking at 1 Corinthians.

Understanding Scripture.

Read 1 Corinthians 2:6-16.

What are the two types of wisdom Paul refers to?

Who are the people Paul is referring to as ‘spiritual’ and ‘not spiritual’?

Discuss the difference between the two. What does he say about those who can understand the ‘Truths’ of God?

According to this passage Who is the key to understanding the ‘Truths’ of God? See also 2 Peter 1:20-21.

Which one would you say you are? Give reason(s) for your answer. Has there been a time when it changed? If so share with others in your group what brought about the change.

God’s Mysterious plan

A. Reread 1 Corinthians 2:7. Discuss what ‘The mystery of God’ is? Read other references Ephesians 1:9-10, Romans 16:25-27.

Read what Peter said about past prophets and the angels. 1 Peter 1:10-12.

B. What does Paul say Christ’s position in this plan is? Ephesians 1:19-23.

What does Paul say about the Jews and Gentiles? Ephesians 2:13-22.

Write down the things that have happened as a result. See also Colossians 3:10-11.

Read what Hebrews 10:22 tells us Jesus had done?

What does this enable us to now do? Hebrews 10:19-22, 4:14-16. How are we encouraged to respond to this wonderful provision of God?

Discuss in your group what God’s purpose in all this is. Ephesians 3:10-11. How do you think God is doing this?

C. Read what Paul says God’s holy people are according to Ephesians 1:18. Look at several versions. Discuss what this means.

Read the following and write down how God’s children have benefited.

Romans 8:15-17, 8:18-23.

Application.

How should this affect us now and how we live? Discuss in your group the difference knowing these makes to your daily living.

Read Ephesians 4:1-3, 11-16. Make a list of the things Paul wants us as God’s children to be doing and to become.

What should our attitude be towards those who are ‘not spiritual’? 1 Corinthians 2:14. Read Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 2:1-5.
