This is the second of two studies from Ephesians 6:10-20 on spiritual warfare.

1. Review. (from last week)

Read Ephesians 6:10-20.

What points do Paul emphasis at the beginning of this passage?

v.10

v .11

V.12

Discuss how crucial these points are in order for us to be protected from our enemies.

These will enable us to resist him and after the battle to be still standing.

Read Jesus words of encouragement and assurance to Peter. Matthew 16:18.

The first three pieces of armour we covered last week were….

A. The Belt of Truth.

B.

C. The Breastplate of Righteousness.

D.

C. The Shoes (that bring the good news of peace with God through Jesus Christ.)

Today we look at the last four.

2. The Shield of Faith.

How does using the shield of faith protect us? Ephesians 6:16.

How did Jesus use the shield of faith against the devil? See His temptation in Matthew 4:3-11.

Is there an area(s) you are weak and venerable in? Are you using God’s shield to protect you when tempted? Do you have God’s answer form His Word as to what to do at these times? (refer to last week’s study for ex. pages 3-4.)

Share and discuss in your group.

3. The Helmet of Salvation.

As the helmet protects the soldier’s head so we need protection in our thinking and knowledge.

Make a few notes next to the following few verses and then discuss your answers with your group

· Colossians 3:16

· Psalm 1:1-3, Joshua 1:8

· Philippians 4:8

· 1 Peter 1:13

· John 1:12-18

· 1 John 5:11-13

· 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

· Hebrews 6:19-20

4. The Sword of the Spirit.

What is the purpose of the soldier’s sword?

Read Hebrews 4:12. How is God’s Word described here?

Who is the Author of The Bible according to 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:19-21?

What is part of the work the Holy Spirit’s does? John 16:8-11.

What point(s) does Paul make in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5?

Reread Jesus use of God’s Word when being tempted. Matthew 4:3-11.

How can you use God’s word in your battle against….

· The world, your flesh and the devil?

· In dealing with false teaching, worldly beliefs such as atheism, theory of evolution, humanism, false manmade religions, etc.

5. Prayer.

Reread Paul’s words in Ephesians 6:18-20.

Discuss how his teaching on prayer in verse 18 applies to us at church@paravista

· ‘In the Spirit’.

· ‘At all times and on every occasion’ c.r. 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

· ‘Stay alert’ Matthew 26:41.

· ‘Be persistent’ Luke 18:1-8, Daniel 10:12-13, Colossians 4:2.

· ‘All believers everywhere’.

How/who would you apply Ephesians 6:19-20 to the body of believers in our church ?

6. Conclusion.

What have you learned new or especially been reminded of as you heard John speak and have worked through these two studies on God’s armour?

Share with others in your group your answer and finish by specifically praying about ways you will begin (continue) to apply God’s armour to your daily walk with the Lord.
