  1. In Luke 2:52 we are told that Jesus grew “in wisdom, and in stature, and in favour with God and man.” What does this tell us about Jesus’ humanity and why is this important?
  2. In what ways is Jesus seen as ‘powerful in word’ in the Gospels? Give some examples of the things Jesus said, how he said them, and how they were received. How do these demonstrate his power?
  3. One of the things mentioned in the sermon is that the gospel comes with power. What is the evidence for this in the Scriptures? See Mark 9:1; Mt. 11:11-12; Rom. 1:16; 1 Cor. 1:18; Phil. 3:10. What other passages might you add?
  4. In what ways do the miracles of Jesus show his power?
  5. Examples can be a powerful. Who comes to your mind as powerful examples of both good and bad? Why does anyone follow an example – Is it because it is good, or shows us what is possible, or guilts us, or inspires us, or something else? What examples did Jesus set for us and why should we follow them?
  6. How important is the power associated with Jesus’ death and resurrection? See Jn. 10:14-18; Rom. 1:4; Phil. 3:10; 1 Cor. 15.
  7. What can we learn from the passages which tell us that power has been given to the followers of Jesus? See Mt. 10:1; Mk. 3:13-15; Lk. 9:1-2; Lk. 10:19-20; Jn. 14:12; Mt. 28:18-20; Lk 24:46-49; Acts 1:8; 2 Tim. 1:7)
